Half of the class of Strictly Come Dancing 2013 took the dance floor this evening for the first time, and among the celebrities was newsreader Susanna Reid and her partner, Kevin Clifton.
Susanna and Kevin performed the jive to Shake Your Tailfeather by Blues Brothers. Their jive really surprised the judges and she had whopping score of 28 for her first dance.
“I feel like I fully landed on planet strictly in sequins. The air is slightly different here,” she said.
Kevin added: “I was sat at home with a cuppa watching the professional dancers and now I’m here with Susanna Reid”.
Susanna has definitely been put through her paces recently as her professional partner got his dates mixed up and thought they had less time than they actually did. Oops! Will the extra work have paid off?
Bruno Tonioli told the pair: “Oh yes! Read all about it! This girl can shake it! No more sofas for you as you have a fantastic stage presence. You have to be sharper on the kicks and flicks. One from the hip and the other from the knee”.
Darcey Bussell added: “Waw! You really sold me that drive. You were fast, high energy and style all the way through. Maybe try a lower heel so you have more bounce”.
“You got one of the hardest dances to do on week one. As far as I’m concerned that was chicken soup to the eyes. You did it terrifically,” Len Goodman told them
Reven Horwood added: “Now for the cold hard truth. Your arm when it goes up, don’t raise the shoulders. It was heavy looking at times and I’d never have attempted that cartwheel. On a positive note darling, energy and personality was sublime”
Susanna and Kevin received a combined score of 28 with a 6 from Craig a 7 from Darcey, an 8 from Len Goodman and a 7 from Bruno.
Speaking about her first live dance of the series, Susanna said: “Thank you to Kevin who is brilliant at the jive. It was brilliant, I loved it. I’m not sure how we did it but we have done it now”.
Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow evening at 7pm with the second live show of the series on BBC One/HD.
