This evening, singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor and her professional partner Brendan Cole took to the Strictly dance floor in the heart of Blackpool. The pair danced the Quickstep to Shirley Bassey’s The Lady is a Tramp.

In her VT, Sophie said last weeks dance went well but a general note of bringing more character to the performances. “It was always going to be special coming to Blackpool,” she said. Sophie’s mum was a TV presenter but she also trained as an actress – who knew?!

Last week, Sophie became the first contestant this year to dance the Argentine Tango, but it didn’t pleas everyone. Craig said it was a tad unstable in parts and a little wobbly, whilst Len said the choreography was fantastic, but he wanted a little more passion. Overall, Sophie scored a respectable 32 points.

Sophie was centre stage at the beginning of the performance, dressed in a beautiful blue dress, but it was lacking a few gems! Otherwise, the Quickstep really lived up to it’s name and the pair made use of the whole dance floor – which is HUGE at Blackpool. Fast, punchy and technically on point. A great dance for Sophie.

Judges Comments

  • Craig Revel Horwood: “I really loved the story, I love the little moments where you danced around the table, very nice. However, your top line you lost on occasion, maybe a little loose and jaggered. The storytelling was absolutely phenomenal”.
  • Darcey Bussell: “Sophie, you came alive. It was so beautiful, a very spirited and energetic dance. It is only that top line, if you pull down your waist you get a little more arch, but other than that well done”.
  • Len Goodman: “You’ve come out full of character, full of intent, full of involvement. You were flying around that floor. Absolutely spot on”.
  • Bruno Tonioli: “This lady definitely is not a tramp, you are a tease! You was working that floor… You were full of it, this place really worked its magic as your performance level tonight was so much better. The technique was good, just check the top line”.

Sophie & Brendan received a combined score of 34 with a 7 from Craig, a 9 from Darcey, a 9 from Len and a 9 from Bruno.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow evening at 7:15pm with the all important results on BBC One.
