Strictly Come Dancing 2016: Ill Brendan Cole‬ to MISS weekend’s show? Anastacia paired with ‪Gorka Márquez‬‬?

by Lynn Rowlands

So far, this year’s Strictly Come Dancing has been one of the most controversial series to date, what with the shock walk-out of Will Young and accusations of ‘racism’ after Melvin Odoom, Tameka Empson and Naga Munchetty were voted off one after the other.

However, the so-called ‘curse’ of Strictly Come Dancing has yet to rear its ugly head. And in fact, the only person ‘cursed’ this year seems to be singer Anastacia!

She has been battling injury throughout the series, and as Strictly fans will recall, she was the centre of the start of this year’s drama when Melvin left the contest.

And now, her pro-dance mentor Brendan Cole has had to pull out of performing with her this weekend after suffering a nasty lung infection.

He will be replaced by Gorka Márquez‬‬, which Brendan revealed during Strictly spin-off show, It Takes Two.

He told host Zoe Ball, “We have the lovely Gorka stepping in for me for a few days,” before jokingly adding, “I don’t know how happy I am about it!

“He’s Spanish, he’s good looking and has a body which is pretty much the best on the show…”

Meanwhile, the Mirror reports that a BBC source confirmed Brendan would not be dancing this week, saying, “Brendan has choreographed the routine but is resting until Friday as per doctors orders.

“So Gorka will be running the routine with Anastasia in training until then.”

But of course, if Brendan isn’t deemed well enough on Friday, then presumably Gorka will dance with Anastacia in Saturday’s live show.

However, for now, the BBC has released this week’s dances and the songs the remaining celebs will be performing to.
