Strictly Come Dancing Christmas 2013: Ricky Norwood impresses with his “diverse” Quickstep

Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special 2013 Ricky Norwood
Kicking off proceedings this evening is EastEnders actor, Ricky Norwood. Ricky is best known for his role as Fatboy on the BBC One soap, but he is also a trained theatre actor. This evening, he is paired up with Janette Manrara (think Julien Macdonald) and the couple will be dancing the Quickstep.

In his VT, Ricky said that he has been lucky enough to win a National Television Award aready, but he’d love to win the Strictly Christmas Glitterball… “I’m a happy guy, she’s a great teacher and I’ve been enjoying every single moment,” he said of being paired up with Janette. The hardest thing Ricky has had to do is work on his posture as he’s come from more of a street dancing background.

Ricky made quite the entrance to the dance floor as he came flying through the air on a snowboard. Of course, with this being a Christmas special, the set was decorated with icebergs and snowmen. I wouldn’t say that Ricky is a natural Strictly dancer, but here’s what the judges had to say about his quickstep.

Judges’ Comments

  • Craig Revel Horwood: “I felt like you were using your shoulder to lead this dance, there were some gapping problems and some posture problems, but I did like you snowboarding in… actually, you’re a very good dancer”.
  • Darcey Bussell: “Well, for me it was sugary, crisp and very light. All those nice diverse styles and for me, it was a perfect surprise for the first dance”.
  • Len Goodman: “The good thing is, there are no rules. Anything goes… you did do a few lifts and I have to say the lifts were good. It was sparkly and bubbly, a bit like me over Christmas. It started off great, but you lost some energy as you went through”.
  • Bruno Tonioli: “For me, I have to say it was like a wonderful glitzy hamper, it was so on trend. I loved how you were cutting some shapes in the snow, and you managed to put a bit of flavor of a jive in there and I think you did really well”.

In total, Ricky and Janette received a total score of 33 with an 8 from Craig, an 8 from Darcey, an 8 from Len and a 9 from Bruno.
