Strictly Come Dancing: Natalie Gumede dazzles with her “fabulous” American Smooth

by Nick Barnes

Strictly Come Dancing Natalie Gumede

The unstoppable Natalie Gumede and Artem Chigvintsev danced the American Smooth to Jennifer Huson’s ‘I Am Telling You I’m Not Going’ this evening, from the brilliant Dreamgirls.

“I was feeling pretty nervous,” Natalie said about last week’s show as the judges were getting a little mean. She added that every dance could be your last dance as the stakes are getting higher. Unfortunately, Natalie got a little nervous in rehearsals about the lifts and as a surprise, Artem took her to conquer the trapeze!

Once again, Natalie managed to top the leaderboard last week but not quite in the same fashion as the week before as she only managed to score 37 points – down from 39 points the previous week. However, the dance still went down well with the judges with Len saying that it was a good quality performance and Bruno adding it was “fabulous”. Meanwhile, waiting in the wings was grumpy Craig with a load of drivel about how her left hand was facing up and how it lacked drama.

Natalie looked amazing in a sparkly flowing blue dress this evening. The dance was fierce and romantic at the same time and coupled with those stunning lifts, Natalie and Artem really did the dance justice… she certainly has nothing to worry about when it comes to the judges comments.

Judges Comments

  • Craig Revel Horwood: “I absolutely loved the crucifix lift at the beginning. It was sharp all the way through and you flowed from one step to another all the way through. You have a tendency to look down before you enter a lift and you have to get rid of that habit – but, incredible!”
  • Darcey Bussell: “It’s true, the fluidity and the mirroring between you – that step coming forward was stunning. You really worked well together. Just watch, the very last lift you didn’t need to grab to come out of that”.
  • Len Goodman: “It was a stunning performance – for me, the dance got lost in the performance. There was so much swirling, it got lost. I’m a wind-up watching a digital world and I have to go with what I see. I needed to see a little more in hold, for me too much swooshing and not enough Foxtrotting”.
  • Bruno Tonioli: “Natalie, you danced like a true dream girl. The flow, the sweep, the spare – sometimes they turned into a fluid. You interpret the music with great drama beneath it. It was absolutely sublime”.

Natalie & Artem received a combined score of 36 with a 9 from Craig, a 9 from Darcey, an 8 from Len and a 10 from Bruno.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow evening at 7:20pm with the all important results show.

I cannot understand Len. He gave Susanna a 9 when she made at least three mistakes. Natalie didn’t make one mistake and he gave an 8. He didn’t like the choreography – well that’s not down to Natalie. He definitely has his favourites and let’s others get away with it. Amy WAS NOT in time with the other girls when it was the arm role and yet she gets a 10. Len be consistent. Have people got a downer on Natalie. Sophie went to drama school and would therefore have had dancing lessons. Very annoyed

Really annoyed at Natalie and Artem’s under marking, they were fantastic!

Obvious who the judges are pushing for, Mrs Crouch!!!!!
