Chelsea Handler confirms Season 2 premiere date of Netflix talk show ‘Chelsea’

by Nick Barnes

Chelsea Handler has this evening confirmed the premiere date of the second season of her Netflix talk show, Chelsea, but there’s a major shake-up along the way.

The talk show, which originally premiered earlier this year is set to return in just a couple of months’ time on April 14! Mark it down on your phone, in your diary, and everywhere possible because you’re probably not going to want to miss it. Failing that, we’re sure your Netflix app will send you a notification when the series returns.

If you’re a fan of ‘Chelsea’ you’re going to have to adapt to some rather large changes in the way in which the season is broadcast. For much of season 1 we were used to seeing 3 30-minute (ish) episodes per week, but it has been confirmed this evening that season 2 will go to a weekly format. Netflix will now premiere a new hour-long episode every Friday evening. So, for those who – just like me – loved seeing a new Chelsea episode three times a week, we’re just going to have to deal with it being once a week now.

Season 2 will feature some more in-depth interviews, more dinner parties, the same level of hilarity, and we’ll be seeing Chelsea venture outside of the studio a bit more. During the first season of the show, Chelsea mentioned numerous times that she was going to India to film various different clips for the show. We know she’s also been filming in Europe and Washington D.C. as well.

Toward the latter end of last year, it was confirmed that ‘Chelsea’ had been renewed for a 90-episode second season. Now, it’s unclear whether there will be 90 hour-long episodes, or whether that will actually be cut down to 45 to accommodate for the fact that each episode is now one hour long, rather than 30 minutes like season 1.

We’re pretty glad Chelsea is back as soon as April as we’ve gotta tell you… we’ve been missing the show.

The first season of Chelsea covered many different issues that Chelsea was interested in, but one topic that was covered a lot was the US Election. Throughout the course of the series, Chelsea had some fantastic guests join her on set including the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Evans, Chris Martin, Ashton Kutcher, Wiz Khalifa, Sarah Paulson, Norman Reedus, Melissa McCarthy and SO many more.

It didn’t exactly get strong reviews when it first premiered, but nontheless Netflix handed a second season over to Handler so it seems the streaming giant is hoping a few tweaks to the format will allow critics to be a bit kinder when it comes to the new season.

Chelsea returns to Netflix on April 14.
