Great British Bake Off 2016: Candice, Mary Berry

It has been confirmed today that Mary Berry is set to return to the Bake Off franchise… just not the UK version of the show. Sad times.

Instead, Mary Berry will be returning as a judge on the American version of Bake Off, which is appropriately titled ‘The Great American Baking Show’, which is also co-hosted by My Big Fat Greek Wedding’s Nia Vardalos and her husband, Ian Gomez.

The brand new season of the show, which is produced by Love Productions as it is in the UK, will kick off on ABC on December 1. Sadly, if you were hoping to get your fix, then you may be a little disheartened to know the series will not be airing across the pond in the UK.

The Great American Baking Show will see ten bakers from across the country battle it out across eight themed episodes, which will include Cake Week and Cookie Week.

The Great American Baking Show

As we all know by now, Love Productions upset millions and millions of people in the UK earlier this year when it was announced that The Great British Bake Off will no longer air on the BBC, and has instead been picked up by Channel 4. The Great British Bake Off has had a home on the BBC since it premiered in 2010 on BBC Two. Due to its immense popularity, the series was moved over to BBC One in 2014. The final episode of the latest series – the last of the normal series to air on BBC One – received an average of 14 million viewers and a peak of 14.8 million.

However, Bake Off as we know it on the BBC is not over quite yet as it has been confirmed that two new special Christmas episodes will broadcast on BBC One this festive period. But after that, it’s goodbye BBC…
