Once Upon a Time’s creators are teasing what’s ahead for season 7.
Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis revealed what fans can expect after it was announced earlier this year that Jennifer Morrison (Emma Swan) is officially leaving the series, and it sounds like fans shouldn’t fret when it comes to carrying on without her.
Speaking at the D23 convention on July 15, Adam admitted that they’re now staring a new chapter with the fantasy show.
“There was a long-term plan of this story we were telling over the last six seasons and it felt like it was time to close the chapter and start a new one,” he said.
“But they weren’t so much happy endings as happy beginnings,” he then continued of the show’s first 6 seasons. “We really want to make sure we honor what happened over those six years, what those characters went through and where they ended up.”
Eddy then added that although the new episodes will mark a new chapter that doesn’t mean everything that’s happened so far will be irrelevant or erased.
“We’re not interested in erasing those six years or making people feel like they wasted six years for rooting for them,” Kitsis said of what’s already happened on the ABC drama. “What came before matters and is still is a huge part of what the show is.”
And it sounds like what came before is where things will start up when the show returns to our screens in October.
The first episode of season 7 is set to pick up with Jared Gilmore’s Henry and will finally reveal what happens as he leaves home.
There’s also a whole lot of Captain Hook in the first 2 episodes of the new season as fans will find out if he and Emma really have a baby.
“It will explain where he is, what he is, what happened,” Adam said.
Once Upon a Time is set to return to ABC on October 6 at 8 pm.
