James Arthur admits Jahmene Douglas has been forced to ‘compromise’ on The X Factor

by Lisa McGarry

James Arthur has only high praise for his pal and fellow X Factor contestant Jahmene Douglas.

The two singers could not be more different in looks or in singing style, but they’ve struck up quite the bond since getting to know each other in Nicole Scherzinger’s judges houses trip to Dubai in September.

This weekend they will battle it out in the series semi final and being joint favourites to win, you’d think they would be bitter rivals. However in a recent interview James had nothing but good things to say about the 21 year old.

He told STV:

“Jahmene always sticks out. He is a world-class performer.”

However, while Arthur gets pretty much a free reign with what songs he wants to sing on the ITV show, he admitted that Douglas’ preferred style of music doesn’t always fit with bosses ideas and so he is often forced to compromise on his tracks for the Saturday shows.

He added:

“He loves gospel music so a lot of the time he has to compromise by singing songs he’d never normally perform. He does it all with such class.”

James also admitted that he felt bad for Rylan Clark who got blamed when contestants like Ella Henderson and Kye Sones were voted off the show.

The controversial singer was eliminated on Sunday but before that, as talented hopefuls were binned by the judges and the public, there was something of a backlash against the former model.

Arthur claims that it was totally unfair and added:

“I felt sorry for Rylan. Week after week, he took the blame for all the favourite finalists going home. It wasn’t his fault and it’s a testament to his good character that he didn’t snap and throw a hissy fit.”

He continued:

“He’s a strong character and I think he’s got a bright future ahead of him.”

He may be right about that because Rylan has already admitted that he’s been approached about starring in a live episode of TOWIE next week and it’s been claimed that he’s considering a stint in the Celebrity Big Brother house in January.

Work offers are said to be pouring in for the flamboyant singer, who has revealed that he is open to anything, singing, presenting, reality TV…the lot!
