James Arthur says X Factor saved him from depression and suicide!

James Arthur has admitted that his life was pretty bleak before he won a place on The X Factor this year.

The 23 year old has become a real fan and judge favourite on the ITV show and last Sunday was elated when it as revealed that he had sang his way all the way to this week’s final.

However, in a new interview with look magazine the singer songwriter has revealed that things were very different and that last year he was battling with ‘anxiety and depression’ and couldn’t see a way out of his problems.

James was living in a tiny bedsit in Middlesborough, struggling to make ends meet and playing in tiny half filled pubs as he tried to make some sort of living.

He admitted

‘This time last year was the darkest point of my life. I cut myself off from everyone and I was in a bad place. I could see it all spiralling and I felt like I couldn’t go on like that.’

Arthur added:

‘I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. I was really worried [because] I felt ready to give up on life. I didn’t want to jump off a building, but who knows how bad it could have got?’

Things are definitely looking up for the hopeful now and it’s widely accepted that even if he doesn’t win The X Factor this weekend, he will land a record deal regardless.

Gary Barlow has backed him saying that as an artist he’s ‘ready to go’ and he’s also won the support of established industry heavyweights such as Emeli Sande, Labrinth and Ed Sheeran.

Last night thousands of people turned out to see James as he performed at a homecoming concert with his mentor Nicole Scehrzinger.

He’s living in a plush London hotel, performing for millions and rubbing shoudlers with the stars. It’s a world away from where he was in 2011.
