UPDATE: Bye Simon Cowell! X Factor USA officially cancelled CONFIRMED
Simon Cowell’s return to the UK version of The X Factor has led to some changes in Fox’s scheduling this year, it has been reported this evening.
The music mogul confirmed today that he would be rejoining the British TV show, after three years of developing his US series. The news broke late this afternoon and almost broke Twitter at the same time!
His decision has spelled trouble for the stateside competition, but then it was already in difficulty anyway. Despite Simon revealing in 2011 that he wouldn’t be happy with any less than 20 million viewers tuning in to watch his new venture, The X Factor USA never, ever came close to that figure and the third run fell to just over 4 million at one point last year.
It’s been reported that the format will be ‘rested’ for 2014, and if the claims are confirmed it will put an end to speculation that the US show would continue without it’s creator for the first time.
The Mirror reports today that Fox bosses were keen for Cowell to fly back and forward between both shows at the end of this year.
A precedent has been set, as both Strictly Come Dancing judges Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli do just that when Strictly and Dancing With The Stars clash.
However the dad-to-be doesn’t want to be stretched and exhausted and has opted to give the American show a break. Just like Ross and Rachel.
An insider said:
“Simon made the decision to sign up to UK X factor in November.
“As a result, he has now chosen to rest the US show despite FOX wanting him to continue and do both.
“Because of his personal change in circumstances and impending fatherhood, he can’t be commuting back and forth to LA.
“Instead he will split his time with Lauren between London and New York, where her family is based.
“This also allows him to give the UK version his full focus and attention.”
Now that Simon is committed to just one show, he can pour his efforts into finding us a brilliant judging panel for the 2014 run.
It was also reported today that he’s keen to have Cheryl Cole back by his side and has also asked Rita Ora to take a seat.
If either lady refuses, then Nicole Scherzinger and Dannii Minogue are apparently his ‘backup plans.’
How nice for them! Leave your comments below…
