As we reported recently, One Direction’s Harry Styles has a new hobby; philosophy…

Which, for a young man who’s obsessed with cars and women, and who has a good grasp of toilet humour, is notable and laudable.

Harry’s been sharing tweets with writer and modern-day philosopher Alain De Botton – who’s pictured above right on a recent Twitter pic – and while speaking to The Sun about his arguably odd friendship with a teenaged pop star, Alain said, “He was very interested in finding out about philosophy.

“He seemed a very intelligent chap.”

He added, “In an ideal world, Harry Styles would be teaching his ten million Twitter followers a little more about Greek philosophy.

“The problem we have got is that the most famous people in the country tend to believe in things that are not particularly ambitious.

“Meanwhile, the people who believe in really ambitious things are stuck away in an ivory tower and no one bothers listening to what they think.

“My plan is to get people such as Harry to go on TV and recommend to everyone they read Proust and Hegel.

“David Beckham could do Aristotle and Plato. The cause of intellectual life in this country would be helped immeasurably.”

Yesterday, Harry tweeted, “Socrates, born in Athens in the 5th century BCE, marks a watershed in Ancient Greek philosophy.”

However, for those of you who may be concerned that Harry’s gone all highbrow, fear no more because the tweet before that read, “Deep Heat in my eye. GAAAHHHH”

Meanwhile, the 1D lads – which aside from Harry of course are Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik – have chosen a special Valentine’s Day playlist on music website, Spotify.

And here’s what the lads reckon is music to make sweet music by…

Eric Clapton, Wonderful Tonight
James Blunt, You’re Beautiful
Aerosmith, I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing
Maroon 5, She Will Be Loved
Cosmo Jarvis, Love This
Adele, Make You Feel My Love,
Alicia Keys, Fallin’
Etta James, At Last
Taylor Swift, Love Story

Yes, that’s right; a Taylor Swift song is on there! Signs of a healing of the rift? Or a sign that the list was compiled before Taylor and Harry split?

Anywho, here’s a look at the 1D lads talking about Valentine’s Day last year…
