Simon Cowell has reportedly admitted that he would have liked a mixture of old and new faces on the X Factor judging panel this year.
As things stand, hopefuls on the ITV show are being mentored by Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger but it seems that only two of those stars would have made it onto the 2012 series, if Cowell had gotten his way.
Tom Bower is preparing to release the second installment of the music mogul’s biography and speaking to Heat, he revealed that the TV boss had a very clear idea of who he wanted as judges this year.
he wanted to see Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue, Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh at the judging table apparently. Tom explained:
“His ideal line-up this year probably would have been Cheryl and Dannii with Gary and Louis. He would have very much liked Dannii there – he thinks that would have brought in a lot more viewers and it would have been a better show.”
It was recently reported that Simon demanded that ITV bosses woo Dannii back to the show, after he let her go last year in a bid to get Gary Barlow on board.
However, the deal didn’t get finalised as the TV channel were not prepared to pay any more than £2 million for Dannii’s involvement and the mum of mum was demanding £5 million to return.
Minogue returned to the UK from Australia last week and as well as launching her new line of Project D clothing, it’s been reported that she also met up with ITV boss Peter Fincham about future projects. Perhaps we’ll see her back in 2013.
On the other hand, a few weeks ago we would have insisted that Cheryl would never be back, after Simon sacked her from the X Factor USA last year. However, earlier this month she made a surprise appearance at Gary Barlow’s judges houses and assisted him in choosing his final contestants for the live shows. The pair have been close friends ever since they climbed Mount Kilimanjaro together for Comic Relief, so perhaps he could persuade her to make a more permanent comeback.
Meanwhile, Bower also told Heat that Cowell will definitely be back on The X Factor at some point in the next few months. He added:
“There’s no doubt he thinks he’ll come back for the final. The role that he’ll play will become clearer in a few weeks.”
