Marlon McKenzie was seen returning for his THIRD X Factor audition on tonight’s show.
The Mancunian singer, who is living with Cleo Higgins from 90s girl band Cleopatra, made it through to bootcamp in both 2005 and 2008, but failed to make it as far as the live shows.
He gave it another shot this year and tried out for Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and guest judge Nicole Scherzinger in Manchester.
He told the cameras:
I’m a receptionist from Manchester. I first auditioned in 2005, I got through to Bootcamp but messed up so came back in 2008 and the same thing really, got through to Bootcamp but wasn’t good enough to make it through to the judges houses. This time I feel like I’ve evolved as a person, my whole attitude to life has changed. I’ve rehearsed as much as I possibly can. I’ve got two children. If I give up on my dream what’s that teaching them? I’ve got to show them that you don’t give up. If you get knocked back, you get back up and keep trying for your dream. I want to prove to the judges I can do this. I think this is definitely my year.
Marlon sang Ain’t No Sunshine for the panel, and what should have been a cheesy performance, was actually quite amazing.
Simon:Well I’ve got to be honest, when you said you were going to sing Ain’t No Sunshine, inside of me I thought oh god we’re going to hear that same old version we’ve heard thousands of times. The fact that you came with your own version of it, which was different, it actually made the song sound incredibly current, I’ve got a good feeling about you as a person.
Nicole: I don’t know why it hasn’t happened yet but I believe everything happens for a reason and I believe you’re meant to be here and I think maybe this is your time.
Louis: It was a great audition and you made the song totally your own. This could be your lucky day.
So Marlon made bootcamp for the third time, but can he break the curse and make it the whole way to judges houses in 2010? Leave your comments below.
