Hotel receptionist Katie Waissel is all set to make her TV debut on Saturday night’s X Factor show.
The 24 year old came to London’s Excel centre dressed like Madonna and admitted to presenter Dermot O’Leary that she is obsessed with the eighties. She added:
‘Freddie Mercury is my icon and I love Etta James. Sometimes I wish I was their love child!”
Katie then took to the stage and informed the judges that she would be performing ‘At Last’ by Etta James. Simon Cowell wasn’t impressed with her song choice thoug. He said:
‘Katie can you sing something different? Something that makes you stand out from the crowd?’
Obviously thrown by the question, Katie decided to sing ‘We Are The Champions’ by Queen. However problems arise she forgot her first line and was forced to begin the song for a second time.
As she finished Louis Walsh blasted her saying:
‘That was very disappointing Katie. You gave us a big build up then you were completely unprepared.’
Before anyone else could criticise her performance Katie begged the panel:
‘Please let me sing ‘At Last’. You haven’t heard me sing that yet, I promise I will blow you away.’
Reluctantly Simon Cowell conceded saying:
‘Katie you have twenty seconds to blow me away.’
Her second performance was certainly better than her first but Louis still needed some convincing. He told Katie:
‘At Last was much much better but you are stull lacking something.
Cheryl Cole was more positive and said:
‘I like that you have your own quirky stile. I know you have already found your own identity. I was on the fence at first but you won me over with At Last.’
Simon Cowell admonished Katie for having been so unprepared with her second song, but still granted her a yes. His and Cheryl’s support saw Katie making her way through to bootcamp and we think she’s very likely to show up again during the live show’s this October.
Katie used to record under the name Vogel. Check out an audio track of her vocals below.
