The X Factor returns to our screens this Saturday night and if have found yourself wondering what sort of performer will steal the crown this year, then read on to see what judges Cheryl Cole, Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue are looking for in their winner.
Revealing that she wants someone who already has a sense of what type of artist they want to be, Cheryl Cole said:
The best people that walk on stage are always the people that know what they want to be and already know what style of music they want, and have an image. That’s always when I know I’ve got something good to work with. All I’m looking for is somebody that is new, that is unique, that is different, that you look at and think, ‘you have got it, you’ve got the X Factor’.
Saying that she wants someone with ‘effortless stage presence,’ Dannii Minogue revealed:
There is no formula for being a pop star, you just have to have that special ingredient… the X factor… that sets you apart from everyone else. I want to see longevity potential, a sparkle in the eye, outstanding vocal ability and effortless stage presence – nothing much!
Explaining what ‘The X Factor’ means to him, Irish judge Louis Walsh said:
The X Factor is when someone walks into a room sings and they have something unique, the attitude, personality and presentation all rolled into one and you watch them perform and think immediately you could sell records. David Bowie, Elton – people like that have the X Factor.
Most importantly, show boss Simon Cowell has revealed what he looks for in potential winners of the show. He said:
The reason we call the show The X Factor is it’s more than just a singing voice, because if it were only a singing voice we could just as easily make a show where contestants send in tapes and we listen to the voices. All great artists are relevant. They have that steel in their eyes – it’s charisma, personality, being unique, entertaining, all those things rolled into one.
We can’t wait until Saturday, so we can see if anyone lives up to the judges expectations!
