X Factor 2012: Louis Walsh brands Christopher Maloney ‘cruise ship’ after Alone performance (VIDEO)

Christopher Maloney had more to prove than most when he took to the X Factor stage this evening.

The 34 year old singer was voted back into the competition last weekend, as part of the wildcard twist but followed up his return with a rather cheesy performance on the live show.

It wasn’t his fault, neither he or Gary Barlow got a choice of what he would sing for that first episode, but this week both men assured fans that they would work hard to pick a song that fitted him better for the love and heartbreak themed episode tonight.

This evening, Gary did go for another ballad, but it was a bigger number and we were definitely intrigued when Chris started singing ‘Alone’ by Heart.

His nerves seemed to be back in full force and the start of the song was a bit shaky and the former call centre worker sounded very unsure of himself. However, when the big notes kicked in, he started to bring a bit more attitude which definitely worked better.

His production was a little strange though. It was patently obvious that Brian Friedman is back on the team, because who else would have put cocktail waiters in the background of a performance like that?

Louis Walsh: You definitely gave it everything. It was very cruise ship, cabaret. Gary it was a lazy song choice. It was a little bit cheesy for me.

Tulisa: Your voice is one of the strongest in the competition but it doesn’t feel current to me.

Nicole Scherzinger: Is that Chris Maloney? Wow! Last week when I saw you I wanted you to be honest, I wanted you to perform because you feel it and mean it. You did it and I’m so proud of you. Brilliant song choice and that note at the end….effortless.

Gary Barlow: There is no need to make you current, changing you is not the way to go. You are perfect the way you are.

Did you enjoy Chris’ performance tonight? Do you think he’s safe? Leave your comments below…..
