X Factor 2012: Gary Barlow to host his own musical extravaganza on ITV this Christmas!

by Lynn Rowlands

X Factor judge Gary Barlow – who has of course earned himself the title of ‘National Treasure’ what with his charitable works and his OBE and all – is to host a night of music and chat on ITV this Christmas.

But of course, as it’s Gary and as it’s Christmas, it will be an “extravaganza” that’s set to feature some of the biggest names in the music industry as well as top comedy stars.

It’s understood that during the course of the show, Gary will sing some of Take That’s biggest hits as well as some of his favourite covers. In addition, he’s to duet with special guests such as his Take That band mates Mark Owen and Robbie Williams as well as his fellow X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger and X Factor boy-band JLS.

The special festive show will be filmed at Manchester’s Apollo next month, and will apparently also feature behind-the-scenes footage from his current nationwide tour.

Of the show, which is due to air on New Year’s Day, an ITV insider said. “What better way to kick off 2013 than with Gary and his mates?

“He’ll give fans all the favourites they love so much and the guests will turn the night into something seriously special.”

And of course, Gary – as well as number of other celebs – has been throwing himself into ITV’s charity appeal Text Santa, for which he and XF judge Tulisa created Christmas cards to sell in order to raise funds.

Gary’s card reads, “When I was a little boy, I remember looking out of my window on a snowy Christmas Eve and seeing Santa riding his sleigh!

“It was the best Christmas present ever to see Santa, so my card is all about the magic and bubbling excitement of Santa and Christmas Eve!

“Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas!”

Text Santa will air later this month and will be hosted by Ant and Dec, Holly Willoughby, Philip Schofield, Christine Bleakley and Paddy McGuinness.

Here’s a reminder of last year’s Text Santa appeal…
