Melanie Masson has admitted that she was concerned that Gary Barlow would quit The X Factor, after Carolynne Poole was eliminated during the first week of the series.
The country singer lost out to controversial contestant Rylan Clark after the week one singoff and when the news was revealed, the Take That star stormed off set, ranting and raving at staff backstage.
Mel has revealed that she, Kye Sones and Christopher Maloney were concerned that they’d lost their mentor for good and confessed:
“I was worried he would [quit] last week, actually, after what happened with Carolynne, but I’m so glad he stayed and I had another week with him.
“I think it would be a great loss to the show if he left because he’s such an asset.”
Melanie went on to become the second of Gary’s categories to be voted off the ITV show, after she went head to head with District 3 and lost on Sunday night.
The dad of three was more gutted than angry on the Xtra Factor afterwards and insisted he was determined to do the best he could for his remaining two singers.
Masson thinks he’ll stay for the duration now and added to Digital Spy:
“I don’t think he would ever walk out on his acts. He’s a real man of his word. He will fight for them until the bitter end.”
He may be fighting for them, but Gaz is going to have a lot on his own plate this year as he just announced dates for a solo tour, which will commence while The X Factor is still on screen.
His 16 date tour kicks off in November and he tweeted:
“I’m really excited to announce news of my solo tour dates starting in November. Tickets go on sale this Friday @ 10am #GaryBarlowTour”
He’s keeping up his charity work too and added:
“Off to the Brit School and Nordoff Robbins centre this morning”
