X Factor 2012: Union J & especially Jaymi Hensley shine during ‘I’ll Be There’ but Gary Barlow wasn’t sure… (VIDEO)

Union J promised us a Michael Jackson song on tonight’s X Factor show and we have to admit, we were pretty excited to see what track they would choose for the Motown themed show.

The lads are determined to make it through the quarter final this evening and onto next weekend’s penultimate episode and their mentor Louis Walsh is pushing for them to succeed, as the last group remaining in the competition.

JJ seemed pretty excited about what he and the boys had planned and before he sang this evening, he tweeted:

“Oooo double the hard work this week… two songs tonight. Am buzzing to perform them tho woop woop JJx”

George Shelley added:

“Double the songs, double the work, but we have tried so hard this week, hope it will be enough for you guys to pick up the phone!:D George X”

They revealed in their VT that they would be singing ‘I’ll Be There’ and it was a much more stripped back performance that their earlier ABBA cover.

It was just the lads, their mic stands and their vocals. We couldn’t fault the delivery at all. The singing was strong, the connection with the audience was great and the harmonies – while not very daring – were tight.

Once again Jaymi Hensley really shone and his voice was typically amazing but it was nice to see Josh taking the lead at points too.

NICOLE SCHERZINGER: I love the song boys, you guys did a beautiful job with it, It was simple. It was honest, good job.

TULISA: Wow, guys what a killer night. Two amazing song choices, two amazing vocal performances. This is your best night. Well done.

GARY BARLOW: Guys I did like that, but with the Motown you had a massive opportunity and you didn’t really take it. It was a good performance but I thought you could have gone the extra mile and you didn’t. Louis I’m surprised with you, you could have been a little more creative with that.

LOUIS WALSH: Guys that was your best vocal performance yet. Gary are you deaf? We didn’t want to play it safe so we took a chance.

Did you enjoy Union J’s performance tonight? Do you think they will be safe on tomorrow’s results show? Leave your comments below….
