Fans of X Factor USA judge Demi Lovato will know that she has firsthand experience of addiction, and therefore knows how destructive it can be…

And of course, drugs were to blame for the recent death of 31 year old Glee star Cory Monteith.

However, Demi has blasted suggestions that Cory may have committed suicide, claiming that his addiction to drugs was “a disease” and it was that disease that killed him.

Speaking to the Sunday People, Demi – who entered rehab in 2011 to seek treatment over her addiction and self-harming issues – said, “All it takes is one moment of vulnerability to get slipped into your addiction.

“It’s not a choice. Nobody chooses to use. He didn’t choose to die. It was the disease.

“It can creep up on you at any moment. It only takes one moment of relapse to potentially die.

Cory was of course in a relationship with his Glee co-star Lea Michele, who’s a close friend of Demi’s.

Of her, Demi remarked, “The main person in my thoughts is Lea.

“I am praying for her so hard and I love her so much. I’m wishing her a lot of strength right now.”

Finally, Demi revealed that her own battle to stay clean and sober has meant that she’s curtailed many aspects of her social life and so has to shun the parties that many of her friends go to.

She explained, “They can turn 21 and have their turn-21st-birthday. I don’t think that I – I just don’t put myself in those situations where I’m going to be at those 21st birthdays.

“I don’t go to clubs. I just know it’s something I can’t do without being triggered. And that’s ok.”

Well, let’s hope she can continue down that path.

Here’s a look at Cory’s Glee co-star Jane Lynch talking about his tragic death…

Lynn is an editor and writer here at Unreality TV and is a trained psychotherapist and the author of two books. She's addicted to soaps, period drama and reality TV shows such as X Factor, Big Brother, BGT and I'm A Celeb.
