We reported recently that this year’s series of X Factor is rapidly becoming the year of second – and third, and fourth – chances as a number of singers who’ve previously tried out for the show have returned…
Among those back for another crack at X Factor success are Amy Mottram, Jade Richards, Melanie McCabe and boy band, Rough Copy. And it’s been revealed today that solo singers Joseph Whelan and John Adams have also come back this year, and are apparently sailing through the early rounds.
However, with the return of all these old faces, The Sun has posed the question “Has Britain run out of talent?”
Well, it would seem a number of X Factor fans think so, given many have taken to online forums and social networking sites to brand this year’s series ‘The Recycle Factor.’
However, one of the most surprising aspects of the influx of formerly rejected singers – for me at any rate – is that several of them had less than complimentary things to say about the show after they were ditched!
For instance, singer Terry Winstanley rounded on judge Louis Walsh – it was during Louis’ Judges’ Houses round that Terry left the show in 2011 – saying, “Louis doesn’t give a toss about us, he was useless.
“We saw him three times – when he welcomed us to Barcelona, when we sang and for his final decision.
“He gave us no advice, no inspiration at all, that’s not a mentor.”
Similarly, formerly booted maths teacher John Adams told Radio Wales, “I think one of the things I may be missing is the [sob] story.
“It’s quite a cruel show really, once you’re out it’s a train ticket and out the back door.”
And Joe Whelan even accused the show of being a fix. When he left last year, he remarked, “The X Factor set me up for a fall. They shafted me by praising me so highly — then sending me home…
“But The X Factor loves controversy. They obviously decided the backlash was worth getting rid of me for.”
However, it will no doubt be interesting to see what the returnees have to say, and really, really interesting if Louis gets Terry in his category again!
Here’s a reminder of Terry and Louis on the show…
