Following months and months of speculation, it has today been confirmed that The X Factor daddy himself, Mr. Simon Cowell WILL be returning to The X Factor judging panel in 2014.
The news was confirmed via a press release from ITV this afternoon in which Cowell has said he is “absolutely thrilled” to be returning to the show.
Cowell has been absent from The X Factor since 2010 after he galovanted off to the U.S. to launch the American version of the show. Since then, The X Factor USA has experienced a bad case of ratings failure and now Simon has re-looked at his priorities and is returning to the original British version of the show.
The X Factor UK has also experienced a bit of a ratings slump over the last couple of years with numerous judging panel changes, but since Gary Barlow and Sharon Osbourne won’t be returning to the show later this year, we needed a big name back on the panel.
Fans of the show have pleaded for some time now that Cowell would return to the show, which will most likely boost ratings once again. After celebrating its 10th birthday last year, Cowell is set to return and is dedicated to finding some new stars such as One Direction, Leona Lewis, Cher Lloyd and JLS.
In a statement which was released earlier this afternoon, Cowell said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be returning to The X Factor UK.
It’s been three years since I last judged the competition and I’m excited to find a global superstar again.
The UK X Factor has set the benchmark in finding worldwide superstars over the years including One Direction, Leona Lewis, Cher Lloyd, Olly Murs, JLS and Little Mix.”
However, despite rumours being rife about who could be joining the judging panel this year, Cowell has confirmed that no decisions have yet been made about the panel line-up.
He added: “Despite all the rumours, ITV and the producers have not decided on the rest of the judging panel quite yet. You’ll just have to wait and see…”
It has been heavily rumoured that Cheryl Cole could be returning to the judging panel this year after leaving the show in 2010 to launch The X Factor USA with Cowell, only to be left humiliated after being sacked a mere couple of days after filming commenced. But, Cowell and Cole have made up now, apparently, and she’s thinking about returning.
It’s likely that Louis Walsh will return, but the future of Nicole Scherzinger is not yet known at the moment.
The X Factor 2014 returns to ITV later this year.
