X Factor 2017: Mariah Carey ‘in talks’ to replace Nicole Scherzinger

by Emily H

Could X Factor fans be saying bye bye to Nicole Scherzinger and hello to Mariah Carey?

According to reports, amid claims Nicole still hasn’t officially signed on the dotted line to return to the ITV talent show this year, Mariah is reportedly “really keen” to take her place and sit alongside Simon Cowell on the judging panel.

“Mariah really wants to do it,” a source told The Mirror of Carey potentially joining the judging panel for series 14. “Nicole is not committing at the moment, although she did meet up with Simon Cowell this week.”

The site then went on to claim that X Factor producers are allegedly now in “secret talks” with Mariah and have already approached her with a proposition to join the show when it returns to our screens in the summer.

As we previously reported, there’s been much speculation about Scherzinger potentially not returning to the show later this year after it was revealed that she’s the only one of last year’s panel (made up of Simon, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne) to have not yet signed a contract for this year.

Notably, Carey does already have a little experience when it comes to judging as she had a short-lived stint on American Idol back in in 2013, but she’s since admitted that it wasn’t actually the greatest experience after she seriously butted heads with fellow judge Nicki Minaj.

Speaking about her one season as an Idol judge in 2015, Mariah even called being on the show “the worst experience of her life” and replied “Hell no!” when asked if she’d ever be willing to return. Ouch.

Let’s hope she has a better time if she joins X Factor
