The X Factor’s Honey G has officially come out.
The controversial rapper, who shot to fame on the talent search last year, announced this week that she’s gay whilst tripping down for a nude photo shoot for The Sun.
“I feel now is the right time to let everyone know that I’m gay,” she told Dan Wootton in a candid new interview, where she also admitted that although she’s owning who she is, she’s still worried about homophobia and the backlash her news could cause.
When asked why she never came out while she was on the show last year, Honey G told the journalist that she never felt it was the right time for her until now.
“I was a bit worried about what people would think. I was just a bit worried about people maybe being homophobic,” she said. “I wasn’t ready to come out to the public at that point.”
But while she decided not to go public with the news, Honey did reveal that’s he told her mentor Sharon Osbourne about her sexuality who would defend her when press hounded her about her sexual preference.
“She would step in say something about her being bisexual. It was hilarious,” the reality star recalled.
Honey – whose real name Anna Georgette Gilford – also opened up about her past experience in the candid chat about her sexuality and admitted that she has been with men in the past but realised she was gay after her second experience with another female.
“I have dabbled with men before, but I’m gay and looking for a female partner that I want to settle down with,” she said. “After I had my second experience with a woman I decided that I wanted to be with women.”
