X Factor Vs Strictly Come Dancing 2013: Who won last night’s ratings battle? Erm, it depends on who you ask!

And lo, the time-honoured and annual pi**ing contest between the BBC and ITV over rival shows Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor has begun…

And given that – in the words of South Park’s Eric, “As is tradition” – both shows aired more or less simultaneously last night, enquiring minds want to know, which show won the most viewers?

Well apparently, that rather much depends upon who you ask, because ITV have just announced that The X Factor won, having attracted a “peak audience of 9.5 million viewers” which they claim was “the highest peak audience of the night…”

However, Metro on the other hand – who one might assume is less inclined to bias over the issue than ITV is – says Strictly spelled their name in the metaphorical snow of viewer ratings ahead of X Factor, reporting, “BBC bosses will no doubt be delighted that they beat Simon Cowell’s juggernaut over on ITV with a peak audience of 9.4million against X Factor’s 9.1million.”

So who to believe?

Well for me at any rate, it’s a moot point given that I always, but always watch X Factor. If the house was on fire, I’d rescue the telly first. That’s how much I love X Factor.

So for me, when it comes to a direct battle between Strictly and X Factor, obviously I’ll record Strictly and watch X Factor as it airs…

But while the facts and figures are somewhat irrelevant to me, and I suspect the majority of viewers, they are of course vital to propping up Simon Cowell’s ego and ITV’s sponsorship purse.

So we eagerly await clarification regarding viewing figures, and when we know more, we’ll clue you in too!

For now, here’s a reminder of last night’s X Factor…

Xfactor strictly is boring and dull

X Factor! No.1! Plus, you have to watch X Factor as it shows as everyone talks about it, but Strictly – even though everyone watches it, its not really a massive talking point so no rush to watch that one. I don’t watch Strictly religiously anyway.

Never watched much X factor. Tried on a few occasions but it doesn’t appeal to me. I find Strictly much more to my taste. Love the skills of the stars improving week by week and the comments of the judges who are giving advice and tongue in cheek critcism not the cruel comments spouted by Simon Cowell. I find it embarrasing to watch the earlier stages of X Factor. Some of the people are just chronic. It begs belief who tells them they are good. I find it just cruel and although some people love this I don’t find it entertaining at all.

I prefer Strictly, but agree with Hazel that X Factor’s the show everyone talks about, and I also find myself commenting more on X Factor than Strictly stories on here. I always record X Factor, so I can whizz through all the ad break / recaps etc. I love both, though, bring on the Autumn viewing! 😀

I haven’t heard anybody talk about the xfactor in years! I don’t watch it, none of my friends watch it anymore and nobody I work with does! It’s had its day but think people finally realise the ‘stars’ it produces are cash cows with very limited lifespan! One direction have even started to fade thank the Lord! Back to talented hard working musicians please
